Fred Dryer is an actor and former football defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). Dryer played college football for San Diego State University. Considered one of the most successful pass rushers in college football history, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1997. Dryer went on to play 13 years in the NFL, playing 176 games, starting 166, and recording 104 career sacks with the New York Giants and Los Angeles Rams. Dryer is the only NFL player to score two safeties in one game.
Following his retirement from football in 1981, Dryer began a successful career as a film and television actor, most notably starring as Detective Rick Hunter in the NBC series HUNTER, which he also directed episodes of and produced the 6th and 7th seasons. Other notable TV credits include LAND'S END, CHEERS, THE MILLERS, THE EXES, ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE, and DIAGNOSIS MURDER. Fred also has his own production company called Fred Dryer Productions.
In 2014, Fred will play CIA agent Thomas Jefferson Smith in NBC's series CRISIS, a conspiracy thriller starring Gillian Anderson, Dermot Mulroney, Rachael Taylor, Lance Gross, and Max Martini.
