Born in Tehran, Iran, Rosie Malek-Yonan is a descendant of one of the oldest and most prominent Assyrian families, tracing her Assyrian roots back nearly eleven centuries.
In 2007 she played opposite Reese Witherspoon in the film Rendition.
Her television acting credits include Star Trek-Deep Space Nine, Babylon 5, E.R., JAG, CSI:Miami, The Practice, Melrose Place, Chicago Hope, Beverly Hills 90210, Profiler, Seinfeld, Murder She Wrote, NYPD Blue and, most recently, NBC's Life.
She's also appeared in several television daytime soap operas such as Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Young and the Restless, and Santa Barbara. And she's just been cast in a recurring role on General Hospital again!
Her plays have been produced and performed on stage in Los Angeles.
Rosie is the author of The Crimson Field, an historical and literary epic novel, based on real events and true family chronicles set to the backdrop of the Assyrian Genocide of 1914-1918 in the shadows of WWI where 750,000 Assyrians were massacred by the Ottoman Turks, Kurds and Persians.
My Assyrian Nation on the Edge is a documentary film of Rosie Malek-Yonan's 2006 Congressional Testimony regarding the plight of the Assyrians in Iraq since the 2003 war. Her passionate testimony and plea to the U.S. government, ultimately prompted Congressman Christopher Smith (R-NJ) to travel to war-torn Iraq to witness matters for himself. While in Iraq, after meeting with local Assyrians, he turned in Malek-Yonan's report to U.S. Officials in Iraq. One year later, a Congressional appropriations subcommittee voted to send $10 million to aid the Assyrian Christians in Iraq.
