Vincent M. Riccardi – or Vic, as he is known to his friends and colleagues – is a clinician, scientist and teacher. He is comfortable and productive at the bedside, in the laboratory and across the podium. (He is also a poet and actor.) His 36-year focus on NF has made him a unique resource for helping some people live with NF and others undertake clinical and research interests in this important set of disorders.
In February 1977 he began 13.5 years at Baylor College of Medicine, where he was a Professor of Genetics, Medicine and Pediatrics. There in Houston he established the Baylor NF Program and founded The Neurofibromatosis Institute. In July 1990 he moved to La Crescenta, California. He was appointed Clinical Professor of Pediatrics (Genetics) at UCLA in 1991. Primarily through The NF Institute, he has continued his clinical research in NF.
His academic clinical practice, clinical research and bench research have perhaps contributed to improved patient care and enhanced clinical and basic research with particular regard to neurofibromatosis. He has more than a dozen publications, including a book about NF.
