Lana Wood
Lana Wood
Actress
Lana Wood is probably best known for playing Plenty O'Toole, the Bond girl who gets thrown half out of a hotel window and into a pool in Diamonds Are Forever (1971).
"I was thrilled to pieces to be Plenty O'Toole," Wood says. "I think it was a fabulous name and was absolutely wonderful and, when it was over, I went on to the next (project) and I got to be Vixen O'Shaughnessy (in The Wild Wild West on TV) or whatever. And I'm a little bit surprised at the popularity of my character after all this time. I'm incredibly grateful to be a part of that. Sometimes, just to be a part of something like that is truly sufficient." (Toronto Sun, Nov. 22, 2003)
Lana made her first film appearance at age ten, playing Natalie Wood's character as a child in John Ford's classic Western The Searchers (1956). Almost a decade later, she co-starred in the 20th Century Fox TV series The Long, Hot Summer (1965) as Eula Harker and Peyton Place (1966-1967) as Sandy Webber.
She did well on popular television programs such as Playhouse 90, Have Gun, Will Travel, Dr. Kildare, The Fugitive, The Wild, Wild West, Bonanza, Felony Squad, and Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In.
In the mid-1980s she appeared for a time on the daytime soap opera Capitol.
In 1984, Lana's book Natalia: A Memoir By Her Sister was published. Years later, she co-produced the ABC-TV special The Mystery of Natalie Wood (2004). Lana says she made the film for her sister, Natalie Wood, who tragically drowned in an accident in 1981 "so that she can be remembered. There is a whole age group right now who have no idea who she is -- and it hurts me. I can't stand it. I mean, her body of work is so phenomenal." (Toronto Sun, Nov. 22, 2003)
Her filmography lists four upcoming films:
Wild Michigan (2009) (pre-production) - Opal
You'll Never Amount to Anything (2009) (pre-production) - Grandma
Shattered Glory (2008) (pre-production) - Sarah
Book of Ruth (2008) (post-production) - Tani
She has a daughter, Evan, and three grandchildren - Daphne, Nicholas, and Max.
