Steve Martin is an Emmy Award-winning actor, comedian, writer, playwright, producer, musician, and composer.
He was raised in Southern California where his early influences came from working at Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm. His ascent to fame picked up when he became a writer for the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour and later, a frequent guest on The Tonight Show.
As of January 2009, Steve has guest-hosted Saturday Night Live 15 times, thereby retaining his title as SNL's most frequent host (a record he has held since 1989).
He has also written two novellas, Shopgirl and The Pleasure of My Company. Shopgirl was later turned into a film (starring Claire Danes and Steve Martin; released in 2005). In 2007, he published a memoir, Born Standing Up. Time magazine's Lev Grossman named it one of the Top 10 Nonfiction Books of 2007, ranking it at #6, and praising it as "a funny, moving, surprisingly frank memoir."

Hi, I’m now "on the road" with my banjo, not having performed live in over twenty-five years. May 11th I'm doing a benefit for the Los Angeles Public Library, being interviewed by the great Dave Barry (who was a writer on my first Oscar hosting and a great comic essayist), and playing along with The Steep Canyon Rangers, a fantastic bluegrass group from North Carolina. We will feature songs from my album, The Crow. (Go to Club Nokia's website for full details).
Then it's on to the Rubin Museum in New York for three sold out shows (it only seats 125 people), performing again with the Rangers, but minus Dave Barry who seems to think he has better things to do than interview me.
After that, it's on to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville to perform with Vince Gill on May 30. My banjo album, The Crow, will be released on Rounder on May 19th, and there might be a surprise TV appearance about the same time. I’ll keep you posted.
