Living with Neurofibromatosis
In Jessica's own words:
I’m 24 years old, living with Neurofibromatosis. It hasn't been easy, painless, or simple but that is what makes this one incredible journey. An endless charade of surgeries, doctor's appointments, scans, and recovery was something I became familiar with at an early age. I had my first surgery at the age 7 and have been a fulltime patient ever since.
Last year a big decision was looming in the horizon and I had been fortunate enough to put it off for 7 years. My doctors had been monitoring an acoustic neuroma on the right side of my brain and the brainstem tumor as well. The tumors were causing excruciating head pressure; it was a pain I couldn't see, yet it made it unbearable to open my eyes. After much thought and deliberation with my surgeons at the University of Michigan I decided to just go for broke and have them taken out
