Tony Hawk
Professional Skateboarder Extraordinaire
This is an 8x10 autographed photo donated by Tony Hawk for this fundraiser.
Tony Hawk is the George Washington of skateboarding, a founding father whose charisma and bag of tricks fueled the sport's growth in the 1980s and 1990s. He won dozens of pro tournaments and, on July 27, 1999, was the first to land a "900" (a 900-degree turn, or two and a half revolutions). During X Games 2001, he again successfully performed the trick. He is also well known for his licensed video game titles distributed by Activision.
Tony has appeared in a number of films and television shows such as Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol, Gleaming The Cube, xXx, Deck Dogz, Drake & Josh Go Hollywood, Jackass: The Movie, Lords Of Dogtown, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, The Naked Brothers Band, CSI: Miami, Million Dollar Password, and Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?.
In June 2009, Tony Hawk was named a Peace Hero by Kids for Peace. The Peace Hero award is given every year to a role-model chosen by the children of Kids for Peace. Heroes are selected based on their living by the words of the Kids for Peace Peace Pledge, their contribution to making the world a better place, and the way they inspire youth to be their best selves.
With the creation of the Tony Hawk Foundation, Hawk also has made an effort to give something back to the sport that has given him so much. Designed to promote and help finance public skateparks in low-income areas, the foundation has distributed more than $2,300,000 to non-profit groups building skateparks throughout the U.S.: from Homer, Alaska, to Needles, California, to Greencastle, Indiana, to Glenwood, Arkansas, to Livermore Falls, Maine. The Foundation has now been a part of 390 new skateparks around the country.
