The Sound of Music (Marta Von Trapp)
Debbie Turners's career started as a young child in show business. Her most famous role is that of Marta Von Trapp in one of the most loved movies of all time, The Sound of Music, winner of 5 Academy Awards including Best Picture (1965). Last year, on The Oprah Winfrey Show, the entire cast reunited for the first time to mark the 45th anniversary of the classic film musical.
After making her moment in the spotlight, Debbie finished high school and became a professional skier. She met her husband, Rick Larson, at a ski resort and the two married in 1980. They have four daughters.
In 1989, she started DTO Flowers (doing business as Debbie Turner Originals), a floral design company that has evolved into a most unique floral environment of part floral arrangements, part creative design studio. Debbie loves flowers and is continually inspired to create the perfect arrangements for the perfect event.
In the beginning, she worked primarily with silk and dried materials for arrangements and wreaths, working with interior designers, and designing accessories for homes and offices. Over time, the company progressed into the full-scale floral and event company it is today.
The company was awarded the prestigious distinction of "Preferred Florist" for the 2008 Republican National Convention. Debbie Turner Originals is one of only four floral designers in the State of Minnesota chosen to create and design floral arrangements for the many events that take place at the convention.
Debbie was chosen to be one of only three "Float Judges" for the 2011 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade along with Nancy Clarke, the Whitehouse florist for 30 years, and Kirk Hendrix, President and CEO of the Indy 500 Festival.
She is currently working on a Sound of Music memoir with her six Sound of Music siblings. It will be a scrapbook like no other, complete with their personal stories and hundreds of photographs and memorabilia. It will be released in OCTOBER 2011.
Debbie attended the University of Southern California (USC) and studied at the Interior Designer's Guild in Newport Beach and Beverly Hills, California. She was born and raised in Southern California but, since 1985, has been living in a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
