Laura Alvarez was born in Valencia, Spain. She obtained her Fine Arts Degree in 2001 from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain. She also spent a semester on an Erasmus exchange in KIAD (Kent Institute of Art and Design).
Laura is always interested in learning more and attends many different workshops such as batik, silk printing, improv, theatre, photography, typography, handmade bookbinding, etc.
Upon starting her Doctorate in Valencia, she began working in different companies as a creative, graphic designer, and theater set designer for the Polytechnic University. Afterwards, she served as Director of Communications and Public Relations in a private school in Valencia.
Since January 2009, she's been living and working in New York where she started designing greeting cards, wrapping paper, clothing patterns, and preparing different projects and exhibitions. On Sundays, you may find her at Union Square selling illustrations with other artists.
Laura has taught workshops at the NY Botanical Garden, with the Bronx Council of the Arts, and other organizations both in New York and Spain.
In 2010, she was an Art Specialist instructor at the YM & YWHA of Washington Heights & Inwood with the Yeshiva Program and Yomawha Summer Camp.
Currently, Laura works for SoBRO as an Art Teacher in an after-school program for public schools in the South Bronx and does freelance work creating posters, promos and corporate images for different companies and institutions in the USA, Puerto Rico, and Spain.
