Comic Book Men, Clerks
Walt Flanagan is a comic book store manager, reality television personality, podcaster, comic book artist, actor and songwriter. He is a long-time friend of director Kevin Smith, and (according to Smith's book SILENT BOB SPEAKS) it was Flanagan who had turned him onto comic books.
He was appointed store manager of The Secret Stash upon its inception in 1997 by his high-school friend Kevin Smith. Not only does Flanagan know more about comics than almost anyone in the world, but he’s also an accomplished artist. He has penciled for several comic books including Karney and War of the Undead, written by Bryan Johnson, as well as Batman: Cacophony and Batman: The Widening Gyre, both written by Smith.
Flanagan may be most well-known for his small but memorable appearances in several of Smith’s feature films, including CLERKS, MALLRATS, CHASING AMY, and DOGMA, always uttering the immortal line, "Tell 'em, Steve-Dave!' – a line of dialogue that eventually became an award-winning podcast he hosts with co-Comic Book Man, Bryan Johnson.
Walt's the father of Vulgar, the View Askew clown mascot, featured in the production company animated logo at the beginning of CLERKS. In addition to that, he provides View Askew with all of it's graphic images - including letterhead and business cards.
He is married to Debra Flanagan and they have two daughters.
