George Wildman has illustrated over ninety comic and children's books featuring Popeye for various publishers. His work has appeared in Disney, Henson, Hanna Barbera, Western, Marvel, Scholastic, Time/Warner, and Field Publications featuring their respective licensed properties.
George was been recognized for his work with a nomination for the Shazam Award for Best Penciller (Humor Division) in 1974, and another nomination for the Shazam Award for Best Inker (Humor Division) that same year.
His crowning achievements include a career guidance series, "Learn how to be a Cartoonist" special and a Popeye epic 50th anniversary comic book special published in 1979.
In April of 1982, the National Cartoonists Society awarded him "Best Cartoonist, Humor Division." Random House contracted George to illustrating a classic Popeye "Pop-Up Book" which was in conjunction with the Robert Altman film. It became a best-seller and is on display at the Smithsonian Institution.
George was also invited to produce a painted wooden Easter egg for the 1983 White House Easter event. This egg is also housed in the Smithsonian.
He has become involved in philatelics, combining his artistic talents with the world of stamp collecting to produce personalized original art and first day of issue covers.
