Born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, Grant Bowler currently stars as Chief Lawkeeper Joshua Nolan in the Syfy series DEFIANCE. He is also well recognized for his roles as Coot, a biker werewolf on HBO's TRUE BLOOD, Connor Owens on UGLY BETTY, and Captain Gault in the hit series LOST.
His Australian TV roles include the dramas BLUE HEELERS, PACIFIC DRIVE, ALL SAINTS, SOMETHING IN THE AIR, as well as starring in the miniseries THROUGH MY EYES. He's also been seen in the widely viewed New Zealand crime drama OUTRAGEOUS FORTUNE, for which he was nominated as Best Supporting Actor at the 2010 Qantas Film and Television Awards.
His film work includes KILLER ELITE, ATLAST SHRUGGED: PART 1, REMAINS, Lifetime's LIZ & DICK, and I DO.
In 1991 Grant graduated from Australia’s renowned National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) and in his early years as a professional actor, he toured extensively with Australia's renowned Bell Shakespeare Company appearing in a number of Shakespearean classics such as ROMEO & JULIET, RICHARD III, HAMLET, and THE MERCHANT OF VENICE. His other theatre credits include: THE RETURN, HAPPINESS, ELEGIES, and DEATHWATCH.
In addition to acting on television, he is also an experienced television host, having fronted all four seasons of Australia's Logie Award-winning series THE MOLE. He also hosted and narrated BORDER SECURITY, a top-rating series that goes behind the front lines of Australia's customs and immigration service.
