The Good Wife
Alan Cumming is an award-winning actor of stage and screen, producer, performer, writer and director who has received Emmy, SAG, and Satellite award nominations for his portrayal of political maverick, Eli Gold in the CBS hit drama THE GOOD WIFE.
In addition to serving as the host of the PBS drama, MASTERPIECE MYSTERY, he also starred in THE RUNAWAY, a 2011 six-part television mini-series in the UK. Alan has also appeared in several other television series, including SEX AND THE CITY, FRASIER, THIRD ROCK FROM THE SUN, THE L WORD, REEFER MADNESS, and the mini-series TIN MAN.
In 2012, he won multiple awards and nominations for his role as Rudy in ANY DAY NOW which was based on a true story that touches on legal and social issues during the 1970s. Other film credits include the screen adaptation of THE SMURFS and THE SMURFS 2 as the voice of Gutsy Smurf, the independent film MALADIES, BURLESQUE alongside Cher and Christina Aguilera, the film adaptation of William Shakespeare's THE TEMPEST, BOOGIE WOOGIE, CIRCLE OF FRIENDS, X2: X-MEN UNITED, the SPY KIDS trilogy, ROMY AND MICHELE's HIGH SCHOOL REUNION, GOLDENEYE, EYES WIDE SHUT, TITUS, EMMA, DARE, and SWEET LAND. With Jennifer Jason Leigh he wrote, produced, directed and acted in THE ANNIVERSARY PARTY.
On Broadway, Alan Cumming was heralded for his seminal performance as the Emcee in the 1998 revival of CABARET receiving a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award. He has continued to work steadily in theater including the role of Dionysus in the National Theatre of Scotland's production of Euripides' THE BACCHAE, HAMLET at the Donmar Warehouse in London, and ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF AN ANARCHIST. In 2013, he won the Broadway.com Audience Choice award for Favorite Actor in a Play for MACBETH. The production also won Best Revival of a Play.
His activism and passion for various civil rights and sex education causes have earned him many humanitarian awards, most notably GLAAD’s Vito Russo media award. He was made an O.B.E. (Officer of the British Empire) in the 2009 Queen’s Birthday Honors.
He was named one of the three most fun people in show business by Time magazine!
