Back to the Future, Taxi (tv series)
Christopher Lloyd began acting as an apprentice in summer stock at age 14. He appeared in more than 200 stage productions before working in film. He made his big-screen debut in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975), which won five Academy Awards, including for best picture. Following this breakthrough role, Lloyd moved to California to pursue more film work. His more popular big-screen roles include those of a Klingon in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984); Professor Plum in Clue (1985); Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988); and Uncle Fester, in both The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993). Though most remember him lovingly for his role as Emmett "Doc" Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy, opposite Michael J Fox and the DeLorean time machine.
Lloyd has also worked fairly often in television, with roles including those of Professor B.O. Beanes on the show Amazing Stories, and a 1992 Emmy Award-winning guest appearance as Professor Dimpie on the drama series Road to Avonlea marking his first Emmy win (he was honored in the "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series" category). However, Lloyd is probably best known by TV fans for his role as the ex-hippie cab driver, "Reverend" Jim Ignatowski, on the popular American show Taxi. For his performance on the series during its 1982 and 1983 seasons, the actor garnered two additional Emmy Awards, both in the "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy, Variety or Music Series" category.
He has reprised the role of Doc Brown on several occasions, including the live action segments of Back to the Future: The Animated Series, Back to the Future: The Ride, Back to the Future: The Game, and, most recently, two episodes of the stopmotion animation comedy series Robot Chicken. In 1999, he was reunited onscreen with Michael J. Fox in an episode of Spin City entitled "Back to the Future IV — Judgment Day", in which Lloyd plays Owen Kingston—the former mentor of Fox's character, Mike Flaherty's—who stops by City Hall to see him, only to proclaim himself God. In 2012 and 2013, Lloyd reprised the role of Brown in two episodes of the stopmotion animation comedy series Robot Chicken.
Still very active in both TV and film, he's had guest-starring roles in many genre TV series including Chuck and Fringe, as well as prominent roles in the comedy-horror film Piranha 3D (2010) and its sequel, Piranha 3DD (2012). But he will always be remembered for starring opposite John Lithgow, Peter Weller, Jeff Goldblum, Clancy Brown and Ellen Barkin, in the cult classic The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984). His role: the Lectroid John Bigboote.
