Gil Rocha #2
Gil Rocha #2
Artist
This piece is called "Volcano Chicken".
Gilberto Rocha was born in Laredo, Texas on July 8th, 1977.
"My birth, according to my mother, was very painful, but mostly lame. During her pregnancy, she was poisoned by seafood and almost lost me, but I'm a survivor and ironically I love seafood. I am an artist and this has nothing to do with art, but I like the story."
Gil grew up on the border between Laredo, TX (USA) and Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas (Mexico). He speaks English and Spanish fluently, but mainly and unconsciously, mostly "Spanglish" - a mixture of both languages. He has a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas in San Antonio (1999) and a Masters of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2006).
"My artwork is very unpredictable and process driven. I move from drawing to writing to sculpture, installation, silence, painting, back to drawing, thinking, and again, back to silence and so on. Thank you for your attention!"
