"I am Jeremy Johnson, 35, was a welder by trade. 5 years ago I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Since I was a teenager I have suffered from balance issues, which career wise was dangerous because my job required to be working sixty feet above ground. Because of a case of extreme fear of falling down, I was forced to quit his job and seek serious medical help. I was initially misdiagnosed. An MRI, confirmed a tumor in the fourth ventricle of the cerebellum, requiring the services of neurosurgeons. The first two surgeons made it clear that to perform a biopsy, which required a craniotomy, could leave me unable to talk, walk, or even breath on my own.
Fortunately, two top neurosurgeons at the Mayo Clinic, successfully removed 90% of the brain tumor. It was a miracle because there was a great probability of loosing coordination and having my arms flopping around with no control. Although, I did develop double vision and my hearing became so intensified that turning book pages hurt my ears. I had to be under the care of a physical therapist, who helped me conquer several physical limitations, including being able to run again, and I was determined to prove them wrong.
Out of boredom while in rehabilitation, and due to fluctuating emotions, I started painting abstract themes. I became a prolific artist because of the urge to express his emotions at the moment. Color certainly reflected the stage of my emotions.
I never painted before surgery. This has been a try blessing in disguise! My life has acquired new meaning. My goal is to help other people, mainly children with tumors and surgeries like mine. That is certainly my dream."
