Karl Urban is a New Zealand actor best known for playing Eomer Eadig in the second and third installments of Peter Jackson's THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy in STAR TREK and STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, Cupid and Julius Caesar in XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS, Vaako in THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK and RIDDICK, and Judge Dredd in the 2012 film DREDD. He also brought to life the villainous Russian assassin Kirill threatening Matt Damon in Paul Greengrass's THE BOURNE SUPREMACY.
Born in Wellington, New Zealand, Urban made his feature film debut in HEAVEN, then garnered critical notice in the fantastical comedy THE PRICE OF MILK, the film that spurred Peter Jackson to offer Urban his role in THE LORD OF THE RINGS.
He won a New Zealand Film and Television Award for his performance in the crime drama OUT OF THE BLUE. He also starred opposite Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, and Morgan Freeman in the 2010 action comedy RED. He recently played the main character, John Kennex, in the FOX television series ALMOST HUMAN.
