"I am interested in the contrast between the domestic world and the public world, and in my videos, drawings, and performances I explore the conducts and codes that define these two realms.
Since 2004, I have been using hand-drawn images and stop-motion animation to create humorous and often dark narratives on domestic life and other related themes. To craft these animations, I move hand-drawn, cutout drawings on a paper background and film them frame-by-frame. I also design the soundtrack often times using the sounds I find around me to emphasis the motion in the work.
Much of my early work focuses on bread. I've used bread as the center of over a dozen videos to explore issues related to consumption, competition, ecology and more. Through my performance series The Bread Project I bring the process of making naturally leavened bread to people in unexpected places. I find that the bread making process acts in contrast to the focus of the space, questioning our busy lifestyle and our expectations of a place."
