Alternative Country's Golden Goddess
Second Chance! This doodle, originally auctioned in 2010, was generously re-donated by the winner.
Since her debut in 1990, Kelly Willis has released six albums. In 1999, Rykodisc released her breakthrough album What I Deserve, which Time Magazine hailed as "the smartest, most consistently worthwhile country CD" to have been released that year.
Kelly, named by NPR as "alternative country's golden goddess," returned in 2007 (after five years spent raising her four children) with the much-anticipated Translated From Love. This album is the follow-up to the acclaimed Easy (2002), of which Rolling Stone said, "Kelly Willis' sweet, burnished voice practically spells heartache... Willis drapes her yearning voice over the tough but funny lyrics...” Easy included collaborative efforts with Vince Gill, Union Station's Dan Tyminski, and Nickel Creek's Chris Thile.
Kelly is married to Austin singer-songwriter Bruce Robison. They will be touring together this year. Swing by the Events page of her website to see upcoming live gigs in a city near you!
