Great Expectations, Worried About the Boy, Pillars of the Earth
Great Expectations, a runaway hit in the UK when it aired after Christmas in 2011, will premiere stateside on PBS this April. The character of Pip is 19-year-old Douglas' second major role for the BBC following his acclaimed performance as Boy George in Worried About the Boy on BBC Two. He has recently appeared in Christopher and His Kind and Pillars of the Earth.
Soon, he'll be seen on the big screen as Miley Cyrus's bad-boy love interest in LOL, an American adaptation of a French film about a teenage girl's rebellion.
He will play Romeo in a new production of Romeo and Juliet filmed in Italy and directed by Carlo Carlei; screenplay by Downton Abbey's creator Julian Fellowes -- who gave him his first professional role in 2009's From Time to Time. Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) is Juliet.
Next, he'll work on Life at These Speeds, with AnnaSophia Robb (Soul Surfer) and Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights). This inspirational sports drama will be directed by Leif Tilden and is based on the novel by Jeremy Jackson. Douglas stars as a rural teen who loses his best friends in a tragic accident and channels his survivor's guilt into an addiction to running, becoming a world-class distance runner in the process. Billy Crudup (Almost Famous, Watchmen) will play Booth's coach and confidante.
