Illustrator: Tori Spelling's Presenting…Tallulah; Magic Trash
Vanessa Brantley Newton is a largely self-taught artist, and took classes at both the Fashion Institute of Technology and the School of Visual Arts in fashion and children's book illustration. She is the illustrator of the Scholastic book series Ruby and The Booker Boys and Tori Spelling’s debut picture book Presenting...Tallulah.
She wrote and illustrated Let Freedom Sing and Don’t Let Aunt Mabel Bless the Table, both published by Blue Apple Books. She also illustrated Magic Trash: A Story of Tyree Guyton and his Art, a book about the Heidelberg Project in Michigan. The Smithsonian Magazine for Kids featured this book December 2011 and it also made Michigan's Notable Book List.
Due in stores in early July 2012 -- Think Big, one of the newest picture books that Vanessa has been working on with Bloomsbury Books. From her blog -- "Award winning writer Liz Garton Scanlon is the amazing author of the book. Liz encourages kids and parents to of course, "Think Big", but about what? About art of course!! The arts are slowly disappearing from our schools. It's so important that we get our kids making all kinds of art. Through dance, paint, music and yes even food. Come along as Liz and I take you and your kid on a wonderful journey through the arts!"
Vanessa describes herself as a full-time mom, and a freelance illustrator and writer, who loves to craft, cook, and collect vintage children’s books. She lives in East Orange, NJ with her husband and daughter, and a very fat cat named Kirby who thinks he is dog.
